I want you to come with me

to Lake Crescent in the fall.

Water’s a chill blue, jade and grey.

Mild, unsuspicious ducks

paddle onto the pebbled beach.

In the yard of Rosemary Inn,

black-tailed deer munch apples.

I want to hug you under these cedars,

with branches like a spiral staircase,

climbing toward the gusty sky.

The mountains ring around us.

This is Peewee.  Even though his breed can’t usually talk, Peewee can say his name if you ask, “Who are you?”  In the morning, he flies down from his indoor hanging nest to land on my chest and sing, “Hiyeee!”  That means it’s time for his transfer to his outdoor playground.  He can also fly distances, another rare feat among his type … usually a climbing bird.  The most amazing thing about Peewee is that he likes to cuddle.  I can pet him just like a little kitten, and snuggle him on my shoulder against my cheek.  Welcome to the family!
